09 Jun

Lagan Specialist Contracting Group have been announced as finalists at the British Construction Industry Awards 2015 as their project “Suffolk Energy from Waste” has been shortlisted in the Civil Engineering Project of the Year (£10m to £50m) category. While another Lagan Specialist Contracting Group project, “Cardiff Energy Recovery Facility” has also shortlisted in the over £50M category for Major Building Project of the Year.

The Suffolk Energy from Waste project enabled a facility with the capacity to treat approximately 269,000 tonnes per annum of residual municipal solid waste and commercial and industrial waste following recycling and composting. The Energy from Waste facility located in Great Blakenham near Ipswich, has officially started producing electricity for the National Grid. The new plant is estimated to save the county council around £350 million compared to the cost of sending its residual waste to landfill.

The Cardiff venture, Cardiff Energy Recovery Facility detailed the construction of a Combined Heat and Power Plant, pre-treatment/recycling area, incinerator bottom ash recycling area and ancillary offices. The fully commissioned plant will process up to 350,000 tonnes of non-hazardous residual waste per year (residual waste being that which remains after the removal of materials for reuse or recycling either at source by householders).

The British Construction Industry Awards will take place on Wednesday 14th October 2015 at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London where the winners will be announced.
