Placement Quantity Surveyor
Job Type: Placement, Fixed Term for 9-12 months
Location: Belfast, with visits to site
Reporting to: Senior Quantity Surveyor/Commercial Director

Role Overview
As a Placement Quantity Surveyor, you will work within our experienced commercial team, developing the essential skills, knowledge and experience to enhance your academic learning. Your ability to think analytically and build strong professional relationships will be key to your success.
How you will Develop
Throughout your placement, you will be mentored by senior members of the team, giving you the opportunity to learn from their experience, guidance and expertise. You will attend sites regularly and gain a clear understanding of how your work contributes to successful project delivery, and how the decisions you make influence the build process.
What you'll do
You will gain insight to and support with the following;
Cost Management & Estimating
- Shadow on estimating, costing and valuation tasks.
- Support with preparation of reports/budgets and present these where required.
- Review budgets and learn how to implement cost controls.
- Support with preparation for tenders and bid writing.
- Review quotations and contracts, within the supply chain, identifying points to be negotiated.
Commercial Administration
- Update trackers, risk registers and other project documentation.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records and electronic systems.
- Be a point of contact for contract, procurement or other commercial queries, dealing with them appropriately and escalating where necessary.
Working Together
- Develop and maintain excellent relationships with key stakeholders including clients, subcontractors and site teams.
- Attend client meetings to represent the business (shadowing at first), handling challenging conversations in a professional manner.
- Work closely with site teams when making decisions, understanding how it will work in practice.
General Responsibilities
- Learn and Develop your knowledge, ask questions and offer suggestions.
- Complete any university assignments required as part of your placement.
- Prioritise the health and safety of yourself and others at all times, particularly when on site.

What you'll bring
To succeed in this opportunity, you will require the following;
- Current Quantity Surveying / Commercial Management Degree student, who will be on a placement year in academic year 2026-2027.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong organisation skills, with ability to prioritise workload.
- A keen interest in the industry and drive to develop in your career.
- Ability to work as part of a team and work collaboratively with others.
- Hold a full valid driving license and have use of a vehicle for work use.
