£75 million
2010 – Ongoing

Charles Brand has successfully tendered the second phase of Northern Ireland Waters multi million pound investment programme to improve water quality and supply across the province. The current Framework is for 5 years with an estimated value of £75m.

The framework management involves all enabling works, detailed design, planning, programming, customer liaison, Symology noticing, pre-chlorination, construction of new water mains, as well as construction and commissioning of potable water pumping stations and service reservoirs with associated M&E works.

Charles Brand have rehabilitated over 1100kms to date of water main under Phases one and two within 46 individual Work Packages across Northern Ireland. Over 65% of the water mains installed have been by trenchless technology in urban and rural environments.

Some recent signature works undertaken in the Framework has been the completion of the A2 Bangor scheme, one of the busiest dual carriageways in Northern Ireland, which involved the replacement of 6.9km of watermain and taking possession of 2 lanes of the dual carriageway from 8pm on a Friday through to 6am on a Monday, working 24 hours a day in order to avoid disruption to weekday traffic flows.

Other work packages included, two complex river crossings. Directional Drilling was completed under the River Moyola with 630mm PE pipe and the River Strule saw the placement of two 450mm PE pipes. Both rivers had challenging ground conditions with significant environmental and fisheries importance.
