FK Lowry completes Cheltenham Scheme for Velcol

08 Jan 2018

FK Lowry Piling have successfully completed a 5 week piling project for a new Client in Cheltenham Town Centre. “John Dower House” is a ‘Later Living’ residential development located in Cheltenham’s central conservation area and immediately adjacent to the Grade II* listed Royal Crescent.

The £325,000 Project for Velcol Ltd comprised of 125 No. 450mm Diameter CFA Bearing Piles and 121 Linear Metres of hard/firm secant bored pile wall for a new 2-storey basement.

FK Lowry designed and installed the bearing Piles to cater for axial loads of up to 600kN with tensions loads up to 150kN. The Secant Bored Pile Wall had a retained height of up to 5.5m and was designed to be propped in the temporary and permanent conditions. Ground Conditions across the site consisted of Made Ground overlying medium dense Sands before firm to stiff Clays were encountered. The site was further underlain by Mudstone at depth.

“Due to the constraints of the Town Centre Site and the access and egress issues, we deployed our 55t Soilmec SF-65 CFA Piling Rig to the project. The SF-65 Rig is extremely adaptable and the speed of mobilisation meant that we could hit the ground running here for our new Client, Velcol Ltd. At an early stage, we forged an excellent relationship with our Client and that ensured we completed the scheme safely and to programme.”

FK Lowry Piling have recently completed a number of Private Residential Schemes for both Private Developers and Education Authorities.
